Cleveland Cavaliers owner Gordan Gund surprised the sports world by reaching an agreement to sell the Cleveland Cavs to mortgage kingpin Dan Gilbert for $375 million. This year's Cavs, behind the heady play of super-sophomore LeBron James, have quickly turned the tide for the floundering franchise. Rocketing value aside, we at the KFBA wondered why Gund would give up on the potential opportunity of being part of Cleveland's first NBA title. So we asked him.
"It's been a wonderful ride here in Cleveland over the past twenty years," Gund explained. "And now with LeBron in the fold, I believe the franchise will grow for years to come. Lately though, I've been getting pretty burned out by the game. When Boozer walked out the door, it really hit me how this is just business. I started asking around shortly thereafter to see how much I could get for the team."
But how can he walk away from the LeBron era?
"That's another thing," a suddenly flustered Gund yelled. "I'm sick and tired of everyone asking me how exciting it is to have LeBron James on my team. I'm freaking blind! Do you think LeBron is really that exciting for a blind man? If it wasn't for him being a local boy, I probably would have pushed the team to take Darko Milicic. At least he sounds menacing."
