Around the Bucket - Week 16

With the Kentucky Fried regular season in the bag and the first round of the playoffs in full swing it's a good time to review 2006/07.

Prize Pool

Congrats to Trantony and JCPeery on claiming first and second place respectively in this year's prize pool. The Sengir Vampires have made Trantony a tidy $750, while JCPeery's Jomegamen are looking to take the Original Recipe's first place bounty in addition to their $250 prize pool winnings.

Leagues ranked by Average Points Scored

1.    Democracy.com's Texas Fanball 2K7 - 197.417

Late drafting newbies were active all season, maintained a competitive balance and finished on top by a full point. Was this widest margin of dominance ever?

2.    The Greatest Show - 196.388

Three teams averaged 210+ ppg carrying this league to second place in its fourth year. Ranked 16th last season.

3.    Johnnie Walker All-Stars - 195.847

Third year league featured seven teams with ppgs higher than 200, including Doug's Cuban Lynx who put a whopping 222. Ranked 9th last season.

4.    B-league - 195.601

The little league that could, has slowly replaced Kentucky Fried friends with grizzled vets who managed to place two of the top ten Prize Pool teams, not to mention the Association wide winner. Ranked 10th last season.

5.    Travishamockery - 195.598

The original trial league has been wrought with GM turnover, but has always maintained it's competitive. It's probably because I'm one of those GMs. Ranked 5th last season.

6.    Turnpike - 195.532

Has come a long way from last season thanks to the overall competitiveness of its cellar dwellers - only three teams failed to score at least 190 points per. Ranked 18th last season.

7.    BBB.Net - 195.483

Fully recovered after losing the 2004-05 season to a player strike. Ranked 12th last season.

8.    Crazy 88s - 195.477

Crazy 88s were ranked 8th last season, just like this year.

9.    Appalachian Brew Co's Fall Classic Invitational - 195.305

The latest drafting league of the season failed to capitalize on the extra two weeks of NBA box-scores. Ranked 11th last year.

10.    The Octagon - 195.283

Dragged down by last place team, but still improved overall. Ranked 17th last season.

11.    Even More Cowbell - 195.161

Big drop off for what has historically been one of the most competitive Leagues in the Association. They ranked 2nd last season and 3rd the year before that.

12.    Sugar Ray - 195.123

Looks like Sugar Ray had a relapse. The fourth year league was tops in the Association its rookie season and ranked 6th last year.

13.    The Big 16 - 194.983

Osupatrick's brainchild was actually fairly competitive in its first season with no team averaging over 210 points or less than 180.

14.    Kung Fu Grip - 194.961

Quite a tumble for the second year league after ranking 4th last season.

15.    Hamster has no P - 194.958

Holding down the bottom of the rankings. Ranked 14th last season.

16.    Paris Hilton Sex Tape - 194.396

The top ranked league last season lost champions and with them its mojo.

17.    Original Recipe - 194.273

Original Recipe ranks less than 3rd overall for only the second time in its long history and lower than 10th for the first time ever. Ranked 3rd last season.

18.    Kentucky Fried Expertation - 194.113

At least the OR is better than the experts! Ranked 15th last season.

19.    Useless Hoops - 192.758

New league provides poetic bookend to the top ranked Demockeracy '07.

Players Ranked by Avg.

(minimum 1000 minutes)

1.    C-Yao Ming (1.167)

The 7'6" behemoth has topped this list all season but is losing ground to Wade.

2.    G-Dwyane Wade (1.166)

Even while missing the last month and half of the season, Wade could field the top KF average. And next year - is Yao or Wade the bigger injury risk?

3.    F-Dirk Nowitzki (1.097)

Dirk is the best of the rest by a small margin, at least for now, but almost 70 points behind the injury prone front runners.

4.    F-Carmelo Anthony (1.096)

The addition of Iverson and the midseason suspension have hurt Carmelo's stellar average, but he is still one of the best and second youngest on this list after LeBron.

5.    F-Kevin Garnett (1.096)

KG remains as reliable as ever.

6.    C-Tim Duncan (1.094)

And Duncan is right there with him.

7.    G-Kobe Bryant (1.075)

With Lakers sliding, Kobe has started taking more shots and has lifted his average. He's still nowhere near last season's league leading 1.171.

8.    F-Carlos Boozer (1.067)

Boozer may have bad Karma, but he's put up monster averages all season long.

9.    G-Tracy McGrady (1.063)

Looked like old T-Mac when Yao was out, but back to a more recent vintage with a healthy Yao back in the mix.

10.    F-LeBron James (1.054)

LeBron was a huge disappointment as the first overall pick, especially for those of us expecting him to cross the vaunted 1.200 that only Shaq, Jordan, Olajuwon and D. Robison have reached in the last two decades.

11.    F-Zach Randolph (1.042)

Big season for Randolph catapults him to borderline first rounder next year.

12.    G-Gilbert Arenas (1.038)

Cooled down significantly since season started, but 25 year old Arenas is still a lock to finish with first four digit season.

13.    F-Amare Stoudemire (1.028)

Not quite the 1.084 he posted before micro-fracture surgery, but good enough to prove the naysayers wrong.

14.    F-Pau Gasol (1.020)

First 1.000 season for the Spaniard comes courtesy of Grizzlies change from half court to run and gun team.

15.    C-Jermaine O'Neal (1.019)

Will finally have four digit season under his belt, but has established himself as major injury liability.

16.    F-Chris Bosh (1.004)

Plays for Toronto and came out in the most stacked draft in 20 years, so he remains permanently under the radar, but at only 22 the sky is the limit for young Raptor.

17.    G-Steve Nash (.998)

Two time NBA-MVP has never posted a 1.000.

18.    G-Baron Davis (.991)

Always a phenomenal KF player when he's healthy.

19.    G-Manu Ginobili (.990)

The Argentinean Dwyane Wade continues to improve every season.

20.    G-Paul Pierce (.976)

Is this the start of the down-swing of his career.
