And then there was one...
It was Week 14 that dealt a crushing blow to Association teams seeking perfect seasons.
After winning 12 consecutive contests, Jtcballer21's College Park Renegades ran into a wall when they played division rival Queensbridge Finest. Leigh's squad, led by POG and Kentucky Fried super star Dwyane Wade, mustered up 210 points and easily defeated the Renegades, who failed to break 200.
Mbrown's Wu Tang Hoop Mafia Pimps had been in a tailspin, barely surviving a 186 score against the Klickety Klak in week 13. Once Mrobison's Sterling Eagles decided to 'bring it' in week 14, and the Mafia Pimps failed to regain their dominant ways, the perfect season came to a swift end. The Johnnie Walker All-Stars will just have to wait until next year for a team to make a run at that perfect record.
My very own Mr. Mastodon Farm, reeling from the loss of Carlos Boozer, lost a 208-204 nail biter against Walker25's Dallas Show-Stoppers.
Going into week 15, only JCPeery's notorious Provo Jomegamen stand undefeated in the Association. Their last two scheduled games are against the mighty Brocheese and the not so mighty Oaksterdam Straightedges.
To be clear, JCPeery had a spectacular Labor Day draft. His first three picks - Kobe Bryant, Marcus Camby and Zach Randolph - have (somewhat improbably) remained healthy and delivered high caliber KF seasons, anchoring his team throughout the season. Two fifth round gambles - Eddy Curry and Randy Foye - did just well enough, that he was able to exchange them (with a straight face!) for a pair of injured superstars - Yao Ming and Chris Paul. And - lest we forget - a draft day trade with the Brooklyn Brewers for a 15th round selection blossomed into Kevin Martin (with 13th round rights!) which in turn delivered Steve Nash and Elton Brand. Yes a masterful draft day in early September may yet yield Provo an OR title. And should the Jomegamen become the 7th team in 8th seasons to hold such a distinction, they will certainly be deserving of it.
But if you think the proud Brocheese are just going to stand, idly by, and let them run the table with a perfect season - well, you just need to lay off the crack cocaine, my brother.
Enjoy your lone standing on the list of perfect teams Mr. Peery. Wallow in all its glory. But know that this coming week, week number 15, the Brocheese will fight with all their might, to end your Jomegamen's fairy tale season.
Perfect Records
- A big time shout out to MBrown and JtcBaller for the fine seasons their respective teams are having in 2007.
